Environmental Protection Division of HSE is tasked with identifying environmental risk of University operations including new developments, and putting in-place management systems to address such. University’s Environmental Stewardship Policy calls for leadership in environmental protection and sustainability among top tier higher education institutions and communities.
In partnership with a wide range of University stakeholders, our team focuses on advocating for environmental wellbeing, eliminating or minimizing University’s environmental impact; this includes but not limited to research operations, facilities operations and maintenance, as well as community engagement.
We use world-class environmental management tools and have recently been recognized with ISO 14001 accreditation—a global benchmark for environmental management. University’s environmental management tool have yielded strong results over the years as highlighted in below environmental performance dashboard.

The unique geographic location of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) on the shores of the Red Sea provides ample opportunity for biodiversity research and engagement.
Through its Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) department, KAUST sets several operational policies, guidelines, and monitoring systems—all aimed at managing our local biodiversity.
KAUST environmental performance is governed through an ISO 14001:2015 accredited environmental management system.
Operation control procedures provide mandatory guidance to operation and maintenance teams to perform activities in a legally compliant and the most environmental friendly manner.
