Golf carts are commonly used at KAUST for both transportation and utility purposes. However, misuse can result in accidents, injuries, and property damage. The following is a summary of key safety rules for operating golf carts on campus. Please note that this list is not exhaustive. All users are reminded to review the full guidelines in the KAUST Road Safety Code.
Golf cart operators must hold either a valid driver’s license recognized in Saudi Arabia or a KAUST Driving Permit issued by the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department. KAUST residents who are not licensed to drive a car in KSA may apply for a KAUST Driving Permit starting at age 17 (Hijri).
Instructions for applying through the KAUSTCentral App were previously shared in The Lens.
Golf cars may be driven on roads, golf cart-approved routes, and campus service tunnels. They are not allowed on pedestrian walkways, sidewalks, Discovery Square, and designated cycle lanes.
The maximum speed for all vehicles at KAUST is the posted limit—but this is not a target speed. Drivers must reduce speed near pedestrians, in high-traffic areas, and when conditions require extra caution.
Thank you for Keeping KAUST Safe.
