KAUST Community Pace Car Initiative – Register Your Interest
The KAUST Community Pace Car Initiative is a voluntary, community-driven program designed to promote safe driving behaviors across campus. Participants commit to driving at or below posted speed limits, leading by example to encourage safer speeds across the community.
The initiative supports the objectives of the KAUST Road Safety Code and contributes to a safer, more respectful road environment for all road users by encouraging individual accountability and responsible driving practices.
The KAUST Community Pace Car Initiative, led by KAUST HSE, is a voluntary program that encourages safe driving across campus. A Pace Car is a registered KAUST community member who commits to drive at or below posted speed limits, demonstrates safe and courteous behavior, and help set a safer pace for others on the road by following posted speed limits.
Pace Cars are identified by a program decal, making safe driving visible and recognizable across the community.
Pace Cars are not enforcement vehicles. Participants do not stop, direct, or confront other drivers, and they do not act on behalf of KAUST Security or any authority. The role is simply to lead by example and support a positive road safety culture in KAUST.
Despite ongoing enforcement and awareness efforts, speeding is still a major contributor to road safety risks and incidents on campus. Changing this will take support from the whole community. The KAUST Community Pace Car Initiative gives every community member a simple and practical way to make a difference each time they use KAUST roads.
Research and experience show that:
• Drivers tend to match the speed of vehicles ahead of them
• Visible, consistent behavior helps establish community norms
• In a campus environment, small actions can lead to collective impact
By participating in the program and consistently adhering to posted speed limits, you help create safer roads for:
• Pedestrians
• Cyclists and e-scooter riders
• Families and children
• Fellow drivers
The program is open to all KAUST community members.
Participants must hold a valid driving license recognized in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, or who hold a valid KAUST Driving Permit (for golf carts), and commit to complying with the KAUST Road Safety Code.
