From the beginning of the process designing new laboratories (Lab Design), then to the preparations for the start of lab operations (Lab Readiness), continuing throughout research assistance and support with assessments (Inspections and consultations), and all the way to the end.
Lab design is a multi-faceted challenge; it plays a huge part in the research process, combining elements of offices and research spaces; one of the main objectives is to promote efficient scientific work and safe operations. HSE participates in project reviews with PDEC (Project Design Engineering & Construction ) and Facility Management for new laboratories and also reviews academic proposals to ASEPC ( Academic Space and Equipment Planning)

Lab assessments provide a coordinated and consistent approach to assess compliance, verification of controls, safety performance, correct issues and prioritize areas for improvement with respect to laboratory safety.
The Principal Investigator/Tenant or Laboratory Safety Representative (LSR) must inform RST(hse@KAUST.edu.sa)at least one month before the planned laboratory closure.
